Wa was zat!

« on: October 17, 2009, 12:56:27 PM »

I have been saying since last spring that I would post my sump project and I have finally had the time to post it!

The sump was made from a 30L All-glass tank.  All of the interior is made from 1/4" plexiglass.

Here is the side & top views.

The flow is skimmer, refuge & return.  I fabricated adjustable gates for both partitions so I could fine tune the water height for the skimmer and the refuge.

First gate.

Second gate.

I also installed removable brackets in the first & third partitions so I could add or remove pumps, heaters, etc.

To get the sump inside of the stand, I needed to remove the front center column of the stand.

Oh, oh.....

It fits.....barely!

Well, the column was put back in and no leaks in the main tank.

Next I add the water to the sump…………..no leaks! Then sand, mud & asst. macro were added to the refuge.

Here it is with the water level gates adjusted and everything flowing.

Well that’s my pictorial story of my “never have to chance, again” Sump………. That was 6 months ago.  A few weeks ago, I bought a Red Sea C-Skim on eBay for $132 ( some guy getting out of the hobby).  Now I have to figure out how to fit a 11”x13” skimmer into a 12”x12” hole.  It sure be interesting!!

your sump is pretty cool but to get that skimmer in there you'll need to buy a sump stretcher - they sell them on ebay

I'm thinking a dremel to the base and raising the skimmer & water level may work.
